HYTEK LAUNCHES NEW PRODUCTS AT FPS EXPO

Date: March 2010

Visit the Hytek stand for a chance to win a brand new fire valve tester. The new unit offers a safe way to test fire valves electronically, rather than using the old fashioned boiling water method.

Hytek is also unveiling several new products including a stainless steel tank alarm float switch, which is suitable for adblue and antifreeze. It can be used in conjunction with Hytek's three channel tank alarm, which monitors bund, low level or overfill.

Other new products include a 1.6 litre capacity oil lifter, which can lift fuel up to 7m vertically and 40m horizontally. A large, clear electronic display allows users to quickly tell when the lifter is running, priming or if there are any problems. The unit is supplied ready for installation, with an integral drip tray for added protection against spills or leaks.

In addition, Hytek is showing a new range of tank security products, including an anti-theft alarm, and locking fill caps.

An extended range of lubrication equipment including funnels, measures, reels, pumps, dispensing systems for oil, grease and antifreeze is also available.

TANK MAINTENANCE MUST INCREASE

Date: March 2010

With the development of fuels, tank maintenance needs to increase according to fuelling and lubrication specialists Hytek. Sales director Andy Seal said "the inclusion of biofuels in both road and heating fuel means we need to rethink the way we store fuel."

Because biofuel is hydroscopic, it attracts water and microbes. Microbial contamination is caused when microbes enter fuel and live on the suspended water in the fuel or on the water/fuel interface at the bottom of the storage tank. Microbes grow quickly into large colony forming units (CFUs) which can get sucked into fuel supply lines, blocking filters.

In order to help maintain a good quality of fuel, good tank hygiene is becoming even more important. Water is a major problem, and can enter tanks through vents, fuel deliveries or condensation.

Whilst biocide will kill microbes, it will not remove the dead bugs. Hytek's fuel conditioner is a simple to install device which can be fitted to pump suction lines. Once installed, the fuel conditioner renders microbes dormant. As well as breaking down already formed CFUs and splitting them into their individual microbial size, it prevents new CFUs being formed. Individual microbes are less than one micron in size, so will pass through pump filters and eventually get burnt by engines or burners.

Andy Seal stresses that the Hytek fuel conditioner is just part of the solution for keeping fuel clean. "Regular tank maintenance is vital, and the new types of fuel we are seeing on the market mean fuel storage is even more important than before. The introduction of up to 7% FAME (biofuel) in gasoil will mean microbes could become even more of a problem, but it can be addressed by good tank and fuel hygiene."

HYTEK MAKES OIL UPWARDLY MOBILE

Date: February 2010

Hytek's oil lifter means you can now install an oil fired appliance with a vaporising burner up to 7m above and 40m away from the main fuel storage tank. This eliminates the need for a day storage tank, and is particularly useful for applications such as commercial warm air heaters which are installed on ceilings.

The oil lifter automatically lifts oil from the main storage tank using a pump driven by an electric motor sitting inside a reservoir. The pump is controlled by float switches, which ensures a continuous supply of oil for the appliance.

It is fitted with a safety device to prevent it from overfilling or running dry. For added protection fire valves should also be installed on feed and suction lines so that in the event of a fire the oil lifter will be unable to keep supplying fuel to feed the fire.

Oil lifters can be installed either externally or internally. External installations require suitable weatherproof protection, whereas oil lifters which are installed internally should be within a fireproof enclosure which is vented outside.

HYTEK LAUNCHES NEW FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Date: January 2010

Hytek has launched a brand new fuel management system which can be used with existing or new fuel pumps. The FC5 system uses the same tried and tested technology used in Hytek's FC10 and FC20 fuel management systems, and offers a stand alone fuel control system at an extremely competitive price.

Consisting of a compact, stainless steel terminal, the FC5 is suitable for wall or tank mounting, and is fully weatherproof. It can be linked to one or two fuel pumps, and the terminal displays fuelling totals by vehicle, tank levels, low tank warnings and details of last fuelling. The back lit LCD display provides excellent viewing of fuel data, even in direct sunlight or at night.

For more detailed fuel data, fuel transactions can easily be downloaded to your PC via the USB stick provided using the viewer software. The software is easy to use, and does not require on-site commissioning. Once installed, data can then be filtered by vehicle or fuel type, and exported to Microsoft Excel or Word.

The FC5 terminal stores up to 2,000 fuelling operations before downloading is required, and can record the date, time, registration number, odometer reading, amount and type of fuel dispensed. All of Hytek's fuel control systems use datatags rather than keys or cards. Guaranteed for life, a Hytek datatag is a short range proximity device which can be programmed with a variety of data to authorise and monitor fuel usage by driver or vehicle. For example, the datatag can require that an odometer reading is entered using the numeric keypad on the pump before fuel is dispensed.

The datatags are easy to programme with registration, odometer entry and fuel type at the terminal. Up to 127 different tags can be used at any one time with each FC5 system, and existing tags can be locked out for security reasons.

The FC5 is available through a UK network of independent distributors including fuel suppliers, pump installation or service companies and tank installers.

GRUELING RALLY FOR TIM HELPS SAVE THE CHILDREN

Date: January 2010

Tim Holyomes from Hytek recently completed the grueling Mongolian Rally to raise nearly £1,200 in sponsorship for charity Save the Children. 35 teams took part in the 2009 event, raising over £65,000 for charity.

After setting out from London, Tim covered over 8,000 miles in 29 days to reach Ulanbataar in Mongolia. Tim and his co-driver used a Jeep Cherokee which had been converted to run on LPG. At the end of the rally, the car was donated to a local charity. Using an LPG vehicle allowed the charity to import the car tax free.

Tim was inspired to take part in the Mongolian rally after seeing Ewan McGregor on TV in the Long Way Around and said "it was a hard slog, but I would definitely do it again and am looking at another rally in three years' time which goes through Nepal and China."

In total, Tim traveled through 14 countries, including Belgium, Romania, Turkey and Kazakhstan. In Russia they were stopped by police over 20 times for minor driving offences such as not indicating, or being in the wrong lane.

MAKE EVERY DROP OF FUEL COUNT

Date: November 2009

With fuel costs rising again, it's even more important to monitor the contents of your fuel storage tanks and make every drop count. Using a high quality fuel gauge can help to stop you running out of fuel, and it can also help you to take a bigger delivery at a better price. In addition, a gauge can help prevent spillage and waste when fuel is delivered.

Hytek offers a choice of two hydrostatic tank gauges, both of which are ideal for fleet operators and fuel distributors. Both systems detect the static pressure generated by the volume of fuel in your storage tank.

The Unitop gauge is a simple hydrostatic gauge which suits above or below ground tanks from 0.9m to 3.2m high. Using a pull plunger system, it can be used to provide instant content readings for diesel, biodiesel, oils and water. The gauge also comes with a remote readout dial, which can be sited up to 20m away from the tank. The Unitop is available with a dial which shows percentages, or alternatively one which is calibrated in litres for a more accurate measurement of +/-2%.

For a more continuous readout, Hytek recommends the Ocio gauge. Like the Unitop, the Ocio is also a hydrostatic contents gauge, and is suitable for diesel, biodiesel, oils and water. It is suitable for use with tanks up to 4m high and is calibrated on site, giving continuous readings in litres, millimeters and percentages to +/-1% accuracy. This allows you to monitor fuel storage levels at all times from a readout which can be sited up to 10m away from the tank. Additional options include a 50m remote readout, and a remote warning device which can alert users to fuel theft a low or high level tank reading.
