New 10 Minute Test for Diesel Bugs

A new on site test that checks for bacteria and fungi in fuel. Results in just 10 minutes...

Fuel that is not being used regularly or that is stored in old tanks can be susceptible to contamination with ‘diesel bugs’. Hytek have the solution – a new compact, on-site fuel test that checks for the three most common types of bacteria and fungi that live and breed in tanks. These microbes can clog up filters and may lead to vehicle downtime and hefty repair bills. It takes just 10 minutes to find out the results from a 250ml fuel sample.

The test is suitable for diesel, biodiesel, heating oil and kerosene. This quick-acting fuel test measures the amount of different types of contamination that are actively growing in the sample and provides three levels of result – negative, low positive and high positive. A low positive result means that the fuel should be treated as soon as possible to remove the free water and contaminated fuel. A high positive result means that the fuel tank should be drained and cleaned as soon as is practicable. Fitting a tank re-circulation kit is also advised to help prevent future contamination.

The test provides a result in just 10 minutes, making it ideal to keep in service vans.

‘Diesel bugs’ can cause vehicle and appliance failure, so it is imperative that measures are taken to stop contamination before it’s too late.
