Turbine Flow Meters
Turbine meters are extremely versatile & as such can be used in a diverse array of applications.
In addition to being accurate to +/- 0.5%, (ideal in process flow applications), less accurate versions of the same technology can also be found. These would be ideal in applications in which a high degree of accuracy is not necessarily required. A good example of this would be measuring water for irrigation purposes.
They work by using a fan-like turbine spinning in a chamber in response to liquid flowing through it. As flow rates increase, so the turbine spins faster - these revolutions are recorded as a series of electrical pulses that are converted to a measurement of flow. When more accurate measuring such as that possible with PD (Positive Displacement) meters isn’t required, then turbine flow meters offer a useful lower cost metering option.
Our turbine flow meters are suitable for use with many chemicals oils, diesel, petrol & water & can operate at pressures of up to 3500 psi (250 bar). They provide high flow rates of up to 1140 litres per minute & operate in a wide temperature range of -50°C to 282°C. A robust stainless steel construction & tungsten carbide bearings ensure long life & durability.
Turbine meters are generally only suitable for use with liquids up to a maximum of 300 cPs. They also require siting where straight runs of pipe before & after the meter are possible to minimise turbulence in the liquid that could affect flow measurement.
